COMPASSION SUNDAY

COMPASSION SUNDAY

  1. One day, we will see the Lord in all His glory. This is what theologians have called the beatific vision—the vision that makes happy. As Aquinas, Calvin, and Edwards each affirmed in their own way, the deepest longing of the human soul is to behold God Himself.

Where are you looking to encounter the Lord in your life?
Do you believe that seeing Him will truly satisfy you?

…when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.” – 1 John 3:2

  1. But here’s the tension: While we long to see God, we often look in the wrong places. Jesus makes it startlingly clear in Matthew 25 that we encounter Him in “the least of these.” Our eyes may search the skies, but Jesus tells us to look among the hungry, the stranger, the sick, the imprisoned.

Are you willing to meet Christ among the vulnerable?
What does your current life rhythm say about where you expect to see God?

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40

  1. The gospel assures us that Jesus came to us first—not when we were strong, but when we were in desperate need. He fed us, clothed us in His righteousness, healed our broken souls, and freed us from sin’s prison. Now, because He loved us first, we love in return—not just in theory, but in action. That’s why serving the vulnerable isn’t a side project of the church—it’s central to who we are in Christ.

How has Christ’s love changed the way you love others?
Where is God calling you to love sacrificially this week?

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” – James 1:27
