Hebrews 4:14-5:10
1. Jesus Understands Our Weakness
Hebrews 4 tells us that Jesus has passed through the heavens as our great High Priest.
Yet despite His exaltation, He is not distant or detached.
He sympathizes with our weaknesses. He knows temptation. He knows suffering. He knows grief, tears, prayers, and dependence upon God.
The difference is that He never sinned.
This means we do not come to a Savior who merely understands defeat. We come to a Savior who experienced the full weight of human weakness and emerged victorious.
- When you pray, do you view Jesus as distant or approachable?
- What burden are you carrying that needs to be brought honestly before Him?

2. Because of Jesus, We Can Approach God
The author of Hebrews gives an incredible invitation:
“Let us then with boldness approach the throne of grace.”
Not because we have earned access.
Not because we have performed well enough.
But because Jesus, our High Priest, has secured access for us.
The throne of God is not merely a throne of power. For those who belong to Christ, it is a throne of grace.
There we receive mercy for our failures and grace for our needs.

3. Jesus Is the Better Priest
Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, Jesus does not need to offer sacrifices for His own sin.
He is the perfect Priest appointed by God Himself.
Hebrews connects Jesus to Melchizedek—the mysterious priest-king who appears long before the Levitical priesthood was established. This points to a better and eternal priesthood.
Jesus reigns as King and serves as Priest forever.
He offered the perfect sacrifice—not an animal, but Himself.
Through His suffering, obedience, death, and resurrection, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who trust Him. And because He lives forever, His ministry on our behalf never ends.

Bottom Line: Approach God’s throne knowing Jesus is there.
Our great High Priest understands us completely, welcomes us graciously, and intercedes for us continually.
So approach the throne with:
- Boldness — because Jesus grants you access.
- Reverence — because Jesus is King and worthy of worship.
- Dependence — because Jesus gives mercy and grace to help in time of need.
