Hebrews 1:1-4

1. The Search for Origin and Identity
So many stories revolve around this question: Who am I, really? We feel it too. Beneath everything else, we want to understand our origin so we can make sense of our lives.

Hebrews opens with a powerful claim: God has spoken. Not just through creation or prophets in the past—but now, definitively, through His Son.

This means our search for meaning isn’t left to guesswork. God has made Himself known.

  • Where are you currently looking to find your identity or purpose?
  • Are you open to hearing directly from God about who He is—and who you are?

Scripture to consider: Hebrews 1:1–2a

2. Jesus Reveals Exactly What God Is Like
Hebrews doesn’t ease into things—it makes a bold declaration: Jesus is the full and final revelation of God.

He is the heir of all things, the creator of the universe, the sustainer of all things, the radiance of God’s glory, and the exact expression of His nature.

If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.

This cuts through all the competing voices trying to define God for us. We don’t have to speculate—He has revealed Himself clearly.

  • How would your view of God change if you truly saw Jesus as the full picture?
  • What voices compete with Jesus in shaping your understanding of God?

Scripture to consider: Hebrews 1:2b–3

3. Respond to the One Who Is Better Than Everything
The message of Hebrews is simple and sweeping: Jesus is better.

Better than prophets. Better than angels. Better than any system, voice, or substitute we might turn to.

And here’s the gospel—this glorious, all-powerful Son didn’t remain distant. He entered our story, made purification for our sins, and now reigns in glory.

The One who made everything is the One who came to save.

So why settle for anything less?

  • Where are you tempted to settle for something lesser than Jesus?
  • What would it look like for you to trust and follow Him more fully this week?
