Knowing What’s Truly Valuable
The recent Louvre heist reminds us that people will go to great lengths to possess what they believe is valuable. Yet even treasures worth millions can lose their worth when melted down or stolen. Paul warns us to be careful where we place our confidence and what we count as gain. Religious acts, achievements, or success—all of it is rubbish compared to the surpassing value of knowing Christ.
What are you currently treating as your greatest treasure?
How can you tell whether your confidence is in yourself or in Jesus?
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21
The Great Exchange
Paul once took pride in his pedigree, his status, and his works. But when he met Christ, everything he once called gain became loss. He calls it rubbish—because compared to the righteousness freely given through faith in Jesus, all self-achieved righteousness is empty. The gospel invites us to exchange self-made worth for Christ’s surpassing worth.
What do you still cling to for your sense of worth or acceptance before God?
What would it look like this week to rest in the righteousness Christ has given you?
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” — Philippians 3:8
The Treasure That Can’t Be Taken
Unlike the treasures of earth that can be stolen or devalued, Christ Himself is the treasure that can never be lost. Through Him we are justified, sanctified, and will one day be glorified. Heaven’s greatest treasure came down to us—Jesus—and He is ours forever. The call now is to seek Him, treasure Him, and rejoice in Him as our greatest gain.
What would change if you truly believed that Christ Himself is your greatest gain?
How can you help someone else discover the worth of Jesus this week?
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” — Ephesians 1:7
